REVIEWS: Joy and In The Heart Of The Sea

Joy: "As he’s best known for movies with male protagonists—like The Fighter, Three Kings and Silver Linings Playbook—I was curious to see how Russell would handle a female-focused story with themes of friendship, sisterhood, motherhood, and gender politics. The short answer is: like an asshole."

In the Heart of the Sea: "This true story is so rich with human drama that it’s little wonder it inspired Herman Melville’s masterpiece “Moby Dick.” Unfortunately, director Ron Howard’s film adaptation “In the Heart of the Sea” rewrites history to make a less interesting epic that owes more to fantasy than it does to fact."

Bonus: my report from the London set of In The Heart of the Sea.
