NYFF 2018

My coverage from the 56th New York Film Festival for Pajiba and Riot Material:

The Favourite: The Favourite is fascinating, ferociously funny, and hands down one of the best films of the year.

Wildlife:  "Dano’s direction urges performances that are tender symphonies of everyday agonies."

At Eternity's Gate: "Schnabel celebrates the art while making its maker a tragic crackpot whom we can ogle in this snooty tragedy porn, stroking our own egos for recognizing his worth."

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs: "This cowboy collection is clunky, indulgent, and ultimately underwhelming."

Mid90s: "Hill’s directorial debut is aggressively mediocre."

Burning: "I don’t need two and half hours and mercilessly long close-ups for this story. It’s one I—-and I reckon most women—-know all too well. We are told it nearly every damn day."
